About Hinkson Properties
Hinkson Properties is locally owned and operated with over 37 years of experience caring for seniors. Offering a full continuum of high-quality, compassionate care, Hinkson Properties is committed to providing the support seniors need to live the fullest and most satisfying lives while treating them with the respect and dignity they so well deserve.
Our Story
Melissa Hinkson, owner/president of Hinkson Senior Living Community, began her career 37 years ago as an owner/operator of a licensed adult foster care home for developmentally disabled and mentally challenged adults in Lakefield, MI. Her reputation as a dedicated and compassionate professional was soon recognized by those she served throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
In addition to those who met the criteria for her AFC Home, Melissa received frequent requests from others looking for an alternative placement to long-term care. This direct communication prompted Melissa to research the available options for seniors in her area. What she discovered was that there were few alternatives to institutional settings. She set out to change this and opened Newberry Assisted Living Community in 2001. Its success in delivering quality, compassionate care prompted Melissa to open a total of nine senior living facilities by 2024.
Melissa’s vision was to create a resident-centered environment that emphasized quality of life. Her careful attention to detail is evident in the many lives she has enhanced throughout her professional life.
“I wanted to be in a career that would give me the opportunity to help people. At the beginning of my career, I had little idea how blessed I would be. I know that what I do touches people’s lives in a very personal way. I see it firsthand. Every day, I am able to see the smiling faces of residents at one of my facilities. Also, I can see how the residents flourish when they are in an environment focused on making their lives more rewarding.
